How cooking became less predictable for

My approach to cooking has changed quite a bit over the years. I used to choose a recipe first and then buy every ingredient needed for it. Now I tend to do the opposite. I look at what I already have and try to work out what kind of meal could come from it. It saves money, reduces waste, and occasionally produces something much more interesting than I expected.

I enjoy using https://bellyovermind.com/ as a source of ideas when I get stuck. The range of recipes makes it easy to find a starting point, whether I am thinking about something sweet, a rice dish, or a way to use leftover bread. I do not necessarily copy the recipes exactly. Often one ingredient or technique is enough to send me in another direction.

Leftovers have become particularly useful since I started cooking this way. Extra rice can become a completely different meal with spices and vegetables, while leftover flatbread can be toasted or turned into something with a new texture. I used to see these things as food that needed to be finished quickly. Now I see them as ingredients waiting for another idea.

That change has made everyday cooking much less repetitive. I still have a few reliable meals, but there is always room to experiment, and I never know exactly what I will end up making.
